Thanks so much for letting us shine the ProHealth spotlight on you this week. What’s your position at ProHealth Physical Therapy and Pilates and how long have you been here?
I am a ProHealth Pilates teacher, and I have worked here since September of 2020.
What does your typical day at ProHealth look like?
I teach clients of all ages and all stages of life. I see male and female private clients, some once a week and some twice a week. I have couples who take duet classes and a duet for female clients. Although my schedule is full of permanent clients, fill-in spots are always available due to everyone’s busy lives.
On Wednesdays at 8:30am I teach the Circuit Class and a Reformer Class in the multi-purpose room on Thursdays at 12:30pm. Modifications are given in both classes for clients with physical limitations and various levels of Pilates experience.
Out of everything you do, what’s your favorite thing about your job?
I believe in Pilates and the positive effect it can have on anyone’s overall physical and mental health. You don’t have to be a certain type of person or have a certain type of body. It feels satisfying that I am providing worthwhile and impactful instruction that carries over to my client’s everyday lives.
I also really value and enjoy the personal, fun, and caring relationships I have developed with my clients. As I get to know people’s challenges and bodies, I find myself thinking about and planning each class to help them improve and reach their goals.
As a lifelong learner, I seek out information on health issues and movement techniques when I have a person in mind that could benefit from them. Additionally, I strive to provide as much immediate relief and improvement as possible. We always ask people individually before sessions or classes if they are currently having any issues. As I teach, I make a special effort to include exercises or stretches addressing those areas.
It’s personally gratifying and meaningful to be part of our client’s progress and to show them I keep their needs in mind and care about them. It makes my day when clients give feedback about how their home exercises have helped them, how they feel after my class, or that they’re in the best shape of their life since coming to sessions with me at ProHealth.
Share the number one problem you solve for clients and patients at ProHealth?
Helping people overcome a lack of confidence in their bodies that acts as a barrier to exercise. It’s important to me that my client’s have positive movement experiences and feel successful. I want them to realize they’re robust, resilient, and have amazing and capable bodies. I also try to sprinkle in a little light-hearted fun, because I believe doing something they enjoy gives them the best opportunity to succeed.
Fav class or service at ProHealth and why?
My favorite service at ProHealth is knowing we strive to provide the highest quality care for our clients and patients. One way we do this is by nurturing a well-trained staff. ProHealth offers employees free Continuing Education weekends with experts in various fields. We have access to a wealth of reference material in the office and online.
Karyn hosts monthly Pilates Lunch and Learns that I never miss. She’s available to enhance our growth and knowledge daily. As a Pilates practitioner, teacher, and employee, I value the opportunity to expand my knowledge base and serve our clients better. It makes me proud to represent the high standards of ProHealth.
