Hi Bethany! Thanks for sharing today on your role at ProHealth as a Physical Therapist. What does your typical day at ProHeath look like?
I work part-time, 20-25 hours/week, Monday through Friday. I am a vestibular specialist, amputee specialist, and the only PT that dry needles at ProHealth Physical Therapy & Pilates Studio. Because of that, dry needling clients are prioritized to my schedule. I am also a manual therapist, so I tend to keep clients in a private treatment room while doing hands-on work with them. I often include this for at least part of each PT session, as needed.
Out of everything you do, what’s your favorite thing about your job?
Seeing clients achieve their functional and recreational goals. I’ve worked with clients struggling with vertigo. They go from being so dizzy they can hardly function in their lives, to “normal” again, typically pretty fast. It’s very rewarding knowing I helped them get their quality of life back.
For my clients with lower limb amputation, they go from being “stuck in a wheelchair” to walking again with a prosthesis. There’s no better feeling than to see these clients regain confident functional independence. When I work with clients who need dry needling, it also offers rapid relief of nagging muscular pain. I’m blessed to be able to help people on a daily basis.
Share the number one problem you solve for clients and patients at ProHealth?
I help restore functional independence while minimizing pain and maximizing movement quality.
Fav class or service at ProHealth and why?
We offer our rehab clients a transitional program into the Wellness side of our clinic: Pilates. Because we are a full Pilates studio, we also rehab our clients with Pilates. When it’s time to discharge from PT, our clients typically already have a love and respect for how Pilates feels to their body. They know how it helps prevent future injuries and keeps them healthy. We offer a discounted transition package into the Pilates Wellness program, and many of these clients stick with Pilates for continued strength, flexibility, posture, core and body mechanics training thereafter.
